Vocabulary: Study for vocabulary test on power verbs--TEST tomorrow! Vocabulary List 1 (first three weeks of school): engage = having your full attention compare = to observe what is the same about two or more things. contrast = to observe what is different about two things. quote = to repeat or copy a group of words from a text determine = to decide or get the answer. explain = to teach me or show me; tell me the steps. predict = to say what will happen before it occurs. summarize = to give a quick statement of the main point of something. support = to back up with details. describe - to give details, to paint a picture with words. formulate = to create, to put together. infer = to find out the hidden meaning. trace = make a list of something in order, usually historical. analyze = to break down into understandable parts. evaluate = to assess for value. Vocabulary: Choose 5 words from your list and give clues to help someone figure out the meaning. TEST is on Thursday.

Read two short passages. On the lines provided, paraphrase what the passages are about (use your own words). Use your Reading notebooks for two examples. We took a Vocabulary List 1 Quiz today.
