My name is Sarah Alwardt and the 2021-2022 school year will be my 14th year teaching. I have been teaching at Powers Ferry Elementary for eleven years. I have also taught 3rd grade and Special Education at other Cobb County schools.
I have been married to my husband, Jason, for 21 years. We have two amazing children, Morgan (20) and Ben (16 1/2). We love UGA football, supporting Guide Dog Foundation puppies- in-training, and ice hockey. |
I graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Political Science; from Kennesaw State University with a B.S. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education; and from Kennesaw State University with a M.Ed. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I am P-5 certified to teach elementary, and P-12 certified to teach Special Education, both in Georgia. I have received: Reading Endorsement, Gifted Endorsement, and ESOL Endorsement.
I was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2014-2015 school year. I graduated from the Cobb County School District's Teacher Leader Academy, Social Studies Cohort, in Spring 2020. |
My teaching philosophy supports the mission of Powers Ferry Elementary: "Mission: Be the one to support, nurture, and empower every student, every day: We ARE Powers Ferry!" I want to inspire and motivate my students to be kind leaders who feel like they matter, and know they have purpose in this world. One of my motivational quotes is: "Develop enough courage so that you can stand up for yourself and then stand up for somebody else," by Maya Angelou. I will constantly remind our 5th graders that: 1) They are powerful. 2) They can do hard things. |
