Today we created a chart for the text structure of a poem, so we could look at poems as text, and as songs, to determine the meaning (or intended meaning of the author). We realized that poems are often created from someone's feelings or thoughts. One thing we noticed--most of the "lines" do not have punctuation--no period at the end!
Here is our class chart about Text Structure of Drama (in a text) to determine meaning.
Here's our class chart on using figurative language to make our writing stronger. I also helps us when we read, because we can understand what the author is REALLY trying to say!
We will be learning about other types of figurative language, but these are the first two.

We are working on opinion writing, so we are using our Opinion Writing Checklist to revise and edit our writing as we go. We are focusing on how to add transition words and phrases to each paragraph to help the sequence of ideas and evidence. We glued examples of transitions words and phrases into our writing notebooks.
