Dear Parents/Guardians, It has been a busy first two weeks of fifth grade! Thank you for sending in all of the school supplies to get our fifth graders off to an organized start. If you still have forms for the Front Office, you can send them in to the classroom with your child. Here are some things we would like you to know about our classroom so far: 1. Please check our class blog for important dates, and homework assignments: [email protected] 2. Spelling words (15-30 words, depending on the Sort number) are given on Monday morning in the classroom, through our spelling website: www.spellingcity.com/salwardt. This website also contains free games and a spelling test activity. We have two spelling grades per week under the Words Their Way spelling program. The “cloze” passage quiz is on Thursday, and the sort and spell quiz is on Friday. On the Friday spelling quiz, the Words Their Way program allots two point for each word; 1 point for correct spelling, and 1 point for sorting the word into the correct column. 3. Each student also has 4 vocabulary words per week. These words are given during small group meetings on Tuesday of each week. We have five flexible, leveled groups. The assessment is on Friday. 4. Each student has a Powers Ferry agenda to write homework and other due dates in. There is a Behavior Card stapled to the back cover for each quarter. This Behavior Card is modeled after the cards used by middle schools, so that we can record all citations in one place. Cards will be changed out each quarter and its information will be recorded on the Report Card. We will continue to update you as new procedures and curriculum changes happen in our classroom. Sincerely, Mrs. Alwardt and Mrs. Raffa One Team. One Goal. Panther Success. Homework:
1. Math: 16 Powers of Ten problems (show expression and solve). 2. Science: Chapter 2, Lesson 1: Landforms: workbook pages 2, 4, 5; draw a picture of what a scientist looks like to you, in your notebook. |
