Reminders: *Tomorrow is picture day (including the class picture)! *Tomorrow is Chick-fil-A biscuit packs sales ($4.00) in the morning car line, to benefit 5th grade activities! Homework: 1) Language Arts: Spelling Week 24 Test and classwork due Friday. Read two metaphor poems ("Volcano" and "Empty") and determine what they mean. Good afternoon! Homework: 1) Reading: If you did not finish "The Unbreakable Betty Blue" reading packet, please complete tonight. Vocabulary Lesson 19 antonym quiz is on Thursday. 2) Language Arts: Please finish analyzing the simile poem in your reading notebook: Class P1: "Old Maid Feet" Class P2: "You'll Blush" The "Be The One to Recycle" recycling permission slip will be available tomorrow, 2.26.20! The recycling bins have been ordered, and we are getting ready to launch our program! Welcome back to the 2nd half of Third Quarter; report cards go home March 20th.
*Chick-fil-A biscuit packs will be sold in the car line this Friday, February 28th, for $4.00 . This supports 5th grade activities. Homework: 1) Reading: Please begin studying the antonyms of new Lesson 19 vocabulary words. The antonym quiz on 10 words will be this Thursday, 2/27. The words to study will be posted Wednesday after school. We are working on analyzing elements of literature when we compare and contrast what we have read. *Re-test letters were attached to the Vocabulary Lesson 18 Tests. The Re-Test will be this Friday, February 28th, at 7:15am. 2) Language Arts: Please begin studying Week 23 spelling words; Test Friday. Homework tonight: read 4 short poems; identify similes; determine meaning of each. Happy Valentine's Day! Thank you to all of the families who sent in cards, candy, and treats for the students to exchange; they were so excited to share their goodies. It was so fun to watch. Thank you for the wonderful gifts you sent in for me--what a treat. I felt very loved today.
Enjoy your February Break! See all of my 5th graders on Monday, February 24th! P.S.: Cobb EMC came today, to bring the grant money I won for our recycling program! I can't wait to get it started. I will work on details over the break, and post news here. Happy Thursday tp everyone!
*Please sign all progress reports for 3rd Quarter before the break, and return them to your child's teacher. *Please ask your child for the March field trip packet of three upcoming field trips. *Don't forget to bring in Valentine's Day cards and/or candy if you wish to participate in the exchange. Homework: 1) Reading: No homework 2) Langauge Arts: *Spelling Week 23 test tomorrow; classwork is also due. *Finish "Guide Words" classwork that we started--determining which page spelling words are on. We have started a new writing research project in the Learning Commons with Ms. Culbertson. In conjunction with our Social Studies standards on The Cold War. Students will be researching how the USA was involved in The Cold War, and how the spread of communism was a concern for the USA. Students will be making Flipgrid videos, and will then watch and respond to each other's opinions!
*Reminder: We will be going on a field trip, sponsored by the Performing Arts Department of Cobb County, tomorrow! We will be going to watch the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra at their Atlanta performance venue. *Valentine's Day cards/candy will be given out by students this Friday, February 14th. If you need another class list, please ask Mrs. Alwardt. *We will also be celebrating our 5th graders, who have been working hard to master their multiplication fast facts, this Friday, February 14th. We will be having ice cream sundaes after math class. Homework: 1) Reading: Vocabulary Lesson 18 Test is Thursday. Please review the antonym quiz so you are ready! 2) Language Arts: Spelling Lesson 23 Test Friday. A-B-C order of dictionary words assignment, in your writing notebook--homework tonight. Please return all Symphony field trip permission slips by tomorrow, if possible. We will be sending the next permission slip home for our visit to East Cobb Middle School.
Homework: 1) Reading: We are working on reading information from more than one text; identifying similarities and differences, and then integrating the information so we can summarize or "teach" it back to someone else. *Vocabulary 18 words will continue through next week. 2) Language Arts: we are working on determining how to write the names of texts we read. Do we underline? Do we use quotation marks? The titles of major works are set apart from regular text. When you are handwriting, you underline the title of the major work. If you are typing the name of the major work, you will use italics. The title of minor, smaller, works are put in quotation marks (“ “). For example, I read Where the Red Fern Grows. (major work, a book) For example, I read the chapter called, "Where is the Red House?" (minor work, a book chapter) *Students have been working on examples in a packet in class. *Quiz tomorrow on underlining and using quotation marks in sentences to show text names. *Spelling Week 22 Test tomorrow; classwork due as well. Please return all Atlanta Symphony forms by this Friday, please! We are getting ready to send another permission slip home, as well.
